With typical perversity, we’ll be releasing our track This Is Not Your Love Song as a single to mark Saint Valentine’s Day on February 14. The tune, taken from the latest album Republic Of the Weird, co-written and produced with Cillian and Lorcan from Basciville, mixed by Johnny Fox, mastered by Fergal Davis, is at once an anti-love song and a tribute to all the great writers, singers and masters of the back-handed devotional all down the years: Leonard Cohen, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas and Mahalia Jackson. Eagle-eared listeners will note a nod to Public Image Limited in the title.
The fantastically macabre cover you see revealed here is from a painting by Resister Tamara Gangnus, with design skills by fellow Resister Rebecca Gangnus. We’re not just a band, people, we’re a cultural revolution!
Our crew of students in the Creative Youth Lab have been hard at work with myself and Jeni Roddy developing conceptual ideas, storyboards and props for a video, to be filmed and directed by Paul Sills over the coming week. So great to be collaborating with them on this. We’ll let you know how we get on.
Stay safe and stay sound.
